Lately, many of our jobs have had us in the role of providing quality footage for another party to edit. This is great for us since we enjoy meeting new people and flexing our people skills to integrate into an existing team. It also gives us the chance to work in a variety of settings, including those towards which we might not otherwise gravitate.
Often, we get called in to capture footage because we are local to the event. Round-trip flights from locations in Canada and the U.S. run upwards of a thousand dollars, not to mention the legal and practical hassles of bringing equipment across the border for work-related reasons. Hiring a local Vancouver professional is far easier and more economical.
A production company sends us some samples of their work so that we can match their style, virtually introduces us to the contact people on site, and tells us what they need via emails, phone calls and shot lists. We bring our own professional equipment, film the event, and send them the footage by courier. No need to spend precious time sitting around at the airport. No need to worry about expensive gear surviving the flight. The only thing that travels is the hard drive.
